UNDERSTANDING THE POEM

ANSWERS-

A.1. Granny learnt tree climbing at the age of six.

2. Her loving brother taught her the art of tree climbing.

3. She was sixty-two when she last climbed a tree.

4. She gets trapped in a tree in the summer season.

5. She was suggested to take rest for a week.

6. Speaker's father made a tree-top house for Granny.

7. The narrator carries glasses full of Sherry and a tray to his Granny's treetop house daily.

B.1. (a) The narrator and his family 'sigh in relief' because Granny would be in bed for a week and they need not worry about her being trapped on a tree again.

(b) Granny was confined to bed because she had been suffering from a high temperature after being rescued from the tree. She was advised to take rest for a week, to stay in bed for a week was like being in hell for her.

(c) When she felt strong and came out from bed and got ready to climb a tree again then she felt that she had got rid of this 'season in hell'.

2. (a) Everyone feared because they thought that one day Granny might have a terrible fall from a tree and she would be die or would be got injured herself seriously.

(b) The outcome was different, she could not come down from a tree on which he was climbed.

(c) The outcome to high temperature as a result of which she was confined to bed for the whole week.
